Age, sun exposure, gravity, and other unavoidable factors play into the look and feel of your skin. As these factors take their toll, your facial skin may start sagging and producing deep creases and wrinkles around your eyes, nose, chin, and neck. This loss of skin elasticity may cause you to appear significantly older than you feel. Fortunately, there are procedures such as a face lift that can dramatically improve the look of your skin and bring youth back to your face.
Good candidates for a face lift are those who are in good health and have realistic expectations of the outcome of their surgery. Those who have strong bone structure and good skin elasticity usually benefit best from a face lift because these help the results appear more natural.
There are a variety of face lift procedures:
Mid Face Lift – Small incisions are made in the muscles located in the middle part of the face. Through these incisions, the surgeon tightens up the middle part of the face by lifting and arranging the fat and muscle tissues. The incisions are then sutured closed. This technique is less invasive than other techniques because it lifts the mid-face but does not touch the forehead or neck.
Lower Face Lift – A lower face lift reduces or eliminates jowls and deep wrinkles, and tightens relaxed skin around the mouth and chin. A small incision is made in front of the each ear that extends down and around behind the ear. Through the incisions, the surgeon removes excess fat and tightens the facial muscles. The surgeon then trims away any excess skin and closes the incisions with sutures.
Lower Face Lift with Neck Lift – A lower face lift can be combined with a neck lift for those who have very loose jowls or low-hanging neck skin. The incisions run from the ear to the chin and are nearly invisible. The neck lift involves tightening the neck muscles through the incisions and trimming away any excess skin and fat.
Full Face Lift – This procedure lifts the entire face from the chin to the forehead. The surgeon will make an incision from the hairline to around the ears. Through the incision, the surgeon will tighten the facial muscles and remove any excess fat and skin. This will help create a smoother, more contoured look to the face, cheeks, and chin in one procedure.
