According to The Orange County Register some celebrity watchers suspect that breast implants are responsible for the figure of singer Katy Perry, but she says she’s naturally so well endowed that she once wanted her breast size reduced.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she said the weight of her breasts gave her back pains as a teenager. That led her to want a breast reduction at age 13.
“I had really bad back problems,” she said, “and was a little bit thicker. Then I grew up and lost the baby fat and said, ‘Hey, this isn’t all that bad.’ ”
Her body dictates some of her fashion choices, she said.
“I’ll tell you about my boobs and fashion,” she said. “It can be hard to wear [high fashion] because they’re best on people who have no curves or thighs. I don’t have a Kate Moss body, but I’m very proud and happy with mine.”
Breast reductions are a common operation, though not as common as breast implants. Based on its 2009 survey of plastic surgeons and other cosmetic doctors, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery estimated that 114,000 breast reductions were done last year, compared to 312,000 breast augmentations and 98,000 breast lifts.
The media rarely draws attention to breast reduction. Dr. O’Toole advises his patients that breast reduction surgery often relieves patients of back pain, numbness in the fingers, and neck pain. A patient is able to increase her wardrobe selection after breast reduction surgery. The recovery is relatively short and most patients can return to work or school within a week.
