According to The Los Angeles Times The FDA is warning consumers about a weight loss drug that could be deadly.
Fruta Planta has been linked to several heart attacks and at least one death, according to officials.
The maker of the product, Kissimmee-based PRock Marketing, is recalling all lots of Fruta Planta and another product called Reduce Weight Fruta Planta.
FDA testing of the product found that the product contains sibutramine, a drug that was pulled from the market in December.
Sibutramine is known to increase blood pressure and pulse rate in some patients. It may also present a serious risk for those with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias or stroke.
Dr. O’Toole explains to breast augmentation patients that significant fluctuations in weight can affect the look and shape of their breast augmentation. This is more prevalent in women with a small amount of breast tissue and saline implants. These patients may express a concern about rippling on the sides of the implant. Often times if the patient re-gains a small amount of the weight she will no longer feel the ripples. Another option would be exchanging the implants for silicone implants. Silicone implants are less likely to ripple to the extent that the patient can feel the implant on the sides.
