It is quite amusing here in Southern California when celebrities feel the need to justify methods used to maintain their good looks and youthful appearance. Recently, the Orange County Register posted a blog written about Gwyneth Paltrow’s magazine article in which she admitted to having had help to maintain her looks. According to the article “She is lightly tanned and smooth skinned while avoiding the telltale waxy complexion of overdone Botox. ‘I’ll take my wrinkles,’ she says. ‘I don’t like the Botox thing.’ But she does enjoy sunshine for the vitamin D, despite ‘my dermatologist yelling at me.’ (She admits to ‘little things, like lasers’ and regular facials…)” This quote is interesting when you consider that the author of the magazine referred to Botox as the culprit for a telltale waxy complexion. At 39 years of age, it is quite understandable that Gwyneth Paltrow would make a statement like, “I’ll take my wrinkles.” In the blog post, contributors chimed in as to which lasers she may have used on her skin. Obviously, no one really knows except for her and her physician. Dr. O’Toole cautions patients from believing that laser treatments are ”little” treatments as Ms. Paltrow indicated. There is a wide array of lasers and none should be discounted as trivial. Patient should thoroughly discuss their expectations and the risks involved prior to choosing laser treatments. Patients should also be aware that Botox treatments are very effective when administered by an experienced injector like Dr. O’Toole. Patient should not look waxy or overdone after Botox injections. Dr. O’Toole welcomes patients to come in for a consultation to see if in fact lasers or Botox treatments are good options for helping them maintain their most youthful appearance.
