Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Martin O’Toole offers our patient options when it comes to rhinoplasty. No two noses are alike making no single technique ideal for every face. During your initial consultation with Dr. O’Toole, the rhinoplasty technique best suited to meet your needs will be determined.
Rhinoplasty Techniques
There are two primary techniques used in rhinoplasty surgery:
- Closed – in which all incisions are placed inside of the nose
- Open – in which one or more additional incisions are made outside of the nose
Both techniques allow Dr. O’Toole access to the underlying cartridge and tissue of the nose, but open rhinoplasty provides for more precise cartilage shaping. If open rhinoplasty is necessary in your case, some scarring will be inevitable. However, this scarring will be hidden in the natural folds of your nose and, if cared for properly, should be all but unnoticeable following your recovery.
Through your incisions, Dr. O’Toole will remove, sculpt, and contour your nose to the specifications determined in your consultation. The amount of shaping or tissue removal, like all other aspects of your surgery, will be based on your exact needs. This will be discussed with you during your initial rhinoplasty consultation.
