Breast lift surgery is used to address ptosis (sagging) of breast tissue brought about by aging, genetics factors, weight fluctuations, and pregnancy and nursing. This procedure is designed to produce a firmer and more youthful appearance, not to increase cup size.
A recent study presented at 30th Annual Meeting of the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons found that cup size decreased an average of one size following breast lift surgery. The results of this study are based on survey responses from 20 women who had undergone breast lift surgery. This subject group is very small, but there was absolute consensus on a decrease in cup size. None of the respondents reported changing bra manufacturers.
During breast lift surgery, Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Martin O’Toole removes excess skin and fat from the chest, enabling him to place breast tissue in a higher and more appealing position. As would be expected, the removal of tissue causing ptosis may slightly reduce cup size, though this is not always the case.
Dr. O’Toole would be happy to talk with you about combining your procedure with breast augmentation to help improve both lift and volume. This and other breast enhancement options can be discussed in greater detail during your initial consultation.
